#iwishpeopleknewthatdiabetes challenges people both physically and mentally.
For me, the physical part is easy. I am fortunate to have the tools I need to be successful at that part. What I have lacked in the past is the ability to use those tools. What I mean by this is I struggled in the past to accept my diagnosis. I needed to process what having a life long illness meant.
At 15, I was unable to do this on my own. When faced with a diagnosis of any kind, mental health is just as important as the physical health. We need the tools to be able to work through this part of the diagnosis. If you find that you can relate to this please talk to your doctor.
Kimberly volunteered at the #IwishPeopleKnewThatDiabetes Booth at the Children With Diabetes, Friends For Life Conference this past July and we utilized her SuperShero powers, BIG TIME!

Your comments are spot on. mental health, a persons ability to not only accept their diagnosis, but to not burnout mentally from the constant monitoring is a very real, very big challenge that the medical professionals just don’t understand. They focus on the numbers only 🙁
